South Korea's First Lady Kim Keon Hee's Dior bag controversy

According to spy camera evidence that was made public late last year, Kim Keon Hee was given a Dior purse as a gift by a pastor. The video was uploaded by Voice of Seoul, a left-leaning YouTube channel. They claim that the pastor, Choi Jae-young, used a camera hidden in his watch to covertly record himself purchasing the bag and giving it to Kim Keon Hee. In the video, the pastor is seen shopping for a grey-blue Dior purse made of calfskin. According to the receipt, the bag cost three million won. Following the acquisition, he goes to Covana Contents, the First Lady’s business in Seoul. ‘Why do you always bringing me these things?’ she asks him there. According to reports, pastor Choi Jae-young purchased the bag.Pastor Choi Jae-young reportedly purchased the bag in September 2022.
Kim Keon Hee is not seen accepting the bag in the footage. The presidential office acknowledged receiving the suitcase, though, and stated that it was “being managed and stored as a property of the government,” according to the Korea Herald.
People in South Korea are furious by the video and are calling on the president to give an explanation for his wife’s behaviour. The opposition added that the ruling party’s apology would not be enough to brush off the problem. Additionally, another PPP leader, Kim Kyung-yul, compared the 51-year-old First Lady to Marie Antoinette, the infamous French Queen who was well-known for her opulent lifestyle, last week.

Kim was born in Yangpyeong, South Korea, on September 2, 1972. She graduated with a degree in art from Kyonggi University after attending Myungil Girls’ High School.[1]
Kim’s scholarly works have been questioned for possible plagiarism.[2] Kookmin University, where Kim earned his Ph.D., declared in August 2022 that it had discovered no malfeasance. The university community responded angrily to the announcement, and a group of sixteen academic experts published their own research to corroborate claims that Kim had plagiarised during her doctoral studies at Kookmin and her master’s degree at Sookmyung Women’s University.[3][4] Rival political parties in South Korea have expressed divergent views on the matter and accused one another of being driven by political considerations.[2][5]
